a cigarette with your fried rice?
i am proud to say that i am a non smoker, i roll my eyes and think bad things about those who do smoke, its almost a prejudice. i hate it that bad. maybe its because i grew up in a house of smokers, and i couldnt go anywhere without smelling like i had just rolled out of a marlboro box. maybe its because it think that smoking is one of the most inconsiderate things a person can do. i mean, if you want to speed up your death, then thats an excellent personal choice, but there are cooler ways to do it without endangering the people around you. i hear skydiving with no parachute works?
i live in the great state of tennesse. back on october a new law went into effect. NO SMOKING in most public places the ban includes any areas where a child could be at any time. this means i no longer have to worry about my daughters asthma, when choosing a dining spot. not to mention the burning eyes i get everytime i walk into a smoke filled room. as you can imagine, i love the new law.
i have gotten used to it, i never have to tell the hostess what section my family wants to sit in, until last weekend. i had to go to asheville nc (the halfway point, where my ex and i meet to exchange the girls) my little ladies wanted to eat chinese, so on our exit was a huge chinese/japanese buffet. strutting our stuff to the door my oldest daughter notices the two very large lion statues, as well as their gender differences, were talking anatomy correct concrete good luck icons. that passes. we enter, and the petite oriental host mutters something, but all i could make out was smoking. im sure i was giving her the WTF look for a very uncomfortable minute or so, not that she shouldnt be used to it with her horrible english, but then it hit me. ohhhhhhhhhhh my gosh i dont want the smoking section, no no no.
i guess it just struck me as weird, unexpected change can always be shocking. i remember being at fridays with my best friend when the law was first passed as she took her mick lite in the tall glass outside so she could have a smoke with her beer. needless to say, that got old for her, and she has joined me on the other team…..the non smokers.
do any other states impose this
