ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE CHILDREN!
If you have stumbled upon this blog, it’s probably because you are looking for something to do with your little curtain climbers. Being in the Knoxville area is a huge benefit to your quest because we live in a region rich with activities for the young ones.
When it comes to finding activities to occupy your children, whether it is for the entire day, or just a portion of an hour so you can get some chores done around the house, it can be quite a task. I, being the operator of a small childcare center, have to come up with ideas on a whim, so I have several ideas for activities, and fun places to visit, in and around the Knoxville area.
Other than the obvious, whipping out some paper and the old box of dull crayons, try giving the kids some marshmallows and toothpicks. Talk about hours of entertainment! Not to mention a little snack to go with! They can make any shape, build houses, or anything their little imaginations will allow them, as long as it isn’t round!
We go on outings with the group very frequently, at least once a week. Knoxville is loaded with parks for the children, and the greatest thing about going to a public park, its free! water works at worlds fair park, powell station park on emory road, and carl cowan park off of northshore all have sprinklers shooting out of the ground, a favorite of all the kids in the hot summer months. There are benches and tables in shaded areas for picnics as well.
If you have a small group, a lot of places are willing to give you discounts, my advice is to call ahead, and just ask. Some places are real sticklers for what size your group has to be though. Bounce usa and sprout studio both gave me a reduced rate for the children.
Sprout Studio is an exciting, educational indoor play and activity center for young children and their families and caregivers. Once inside, it is safe to let the kids roam and do as they please. Since they learn through play, its an excellent choice. There is a vets office, a market, science area, splash pond, dress up theatre, art studio, car track, campground, and a two story tree house with tunnels, slides, and climbing wall. There is also a designated are for the 2 year old and younger crowd. I sat in the café, where I was able to access wireless internet, and have a snack while the kids enjoyed themselves. Sprout studio is open Monday-Saturday 9:30-5:00. Admission for all children over age 1 is $7, one adult with each group also has to pay. We were given the rate of $6 per child, no adults had to pay.
Bounce USA is an inflatable fun center located in powell, at the railroad tracks on west beaver creek. It is a great place for children to get some much needed exercise, or just burn some of that extra energy we all wish we had. Admission for free play is typically $5.50, but they also gave me a group/ frequent visitor rate of $4.50 per child. Inside are 10 giant inflatables for the children to run, jump, flip, race, and slide on. The owners are some of the friendliest in the business, as they greet us at the door every time we go, and they took the time to get to know me, and each of the children that I always have with me. They make sure that every child has a safe and enjoyable experience every time. Their prices on everything from admission, to parties, to snacks are much lower than that of their competition. You can find us there every Thursday!
